Concepts Covered
Apply previous understanding of multiplication that 3 x 7 can be represented as the number of objects in 3 groups of 7 objects, and write this as 7 + 7 + 7 to the multiplication of a fraction by a whole number. See a fraction as a whole number multiplied by the unit fraction with the same denominator. All fractions are a composition of their unit fraction. Unit fractions, or fractions with a numerator of 1, are formed by partitioning a whole into equal parts and taking one part. Unit fractions are the basic building block of all fractions. Multiply a whole number and a fraction by using the whole number multiplier as groups of the fraction to be added together.
