Last summer, we announced our exciting partnership with Rovio Entertainment to feature the Angry Birds characters we all know and love in our Learning Universe. This was possible thanks to our licensing representative, Maximum Orbit.

Today we’re thrilled to introduce our first titles — Angry Birds Eggstraction and Angry Birds and the Multiplication Portal.

The first batch of games addresses topics for grades 3-5: Collisions and Forces and Basic Multiplication. Read more below for an overview of these games and the adventures your students will experience!

Angry Birds Eggstraction

Game Description:

Help your favorite Angry Birds take back their eggs from the pigs using your knowledge of forces and collisions. Use the sproing-o-matic to push Red and spoil the pig’s plans. Analyze each level to set your strategy by adjusting the angle, direction, and force. Avoid falling or getting stuck in the middle of the road by placing the indicator in the right position. Are you ready for this?

Academically, students will learn concepts in collisions and forces using an Angry Birds gameplay experience all your students will love.

 • Physics-based Levels: From the classic Angry Birds style, Eggstraction will challenge students to strategize and aim by considering the physics behind trajectories. In level 2, the students will need to determine the correct angle and force in normal conditions to rescue the eggs.
 • Problem-solving Challenges: With increasing difficulty at each level, the game will promote critical thinking by presenting challenges that require reasoning with the learned academic concepts. For example, in level 7 students will need to determine which angle and force in the Sproing-O-Matic will work for reaching the eggs while taking into account that increased friction of the ground will slow down Red.
 • Learning Through Play: Our mission. This new game offers an entertaining and engaging way to learn about concepts like force, motion, and energy, making complex concepts enjoyable and approachable for all students. In level 4, the game will challenge students to make a trick shot by combining the basics of collision concepts to take back Matilda’s eggs.

With Professor Pig on our side, the Angry Birds crew will rescue their eggs from the evil pigs. They’ll use Professor Pig’s invention, the sproing-o-matic, to achieve the goal. Bring all the eggs back home to win the game. Have fun and enjoy playing! Find Eggstraction on the Legends of Learning platform here.

Angry Birds and the Multiplication Portal

Game description:

In this game, you will help the birds protect the eggs with the power of multiplication portals! The Pigs come around again and this time they have barriers with them! Take them down and let’s kick those pigs out of here!

What sets Angry Birds and the Multiplication Portal apart is its unique approach to learning. It turns multiplication into an exciting adventure.

 • Engaging Gameplay: Students use multiplication skills to pick the correct Angry Bird, aim, and launch it through the portal to destroy the wall.
 • Progressive Difficulty: As students advance through the game, the levels become more challenging, ensuring continuous learning and skill development.

Angry Birds and the Multiplication Portal is here to make learning fun and effective. Get ready to unleash the power of multiplication and join the Angry Birds on their epic educational adventure! Find The Multiplication Portal on the Legends of Learning platform here.

With many families quarantined at home because of the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, parents are now struggling with the daunting task of juggling full-time jobs and full-time parenting – quite literally – all under one roof.

One of the most proactive things you can do for your family right now is to create a routine that everyone in your household can follow.

In general, routines help people maintain a sense of calm and order. Under these extremely stressful circumstances, they also help provide a sense of normalcy in the face of so much uncertainty. Your children are used to a having a predictable schedule set for them in school, and they will likely adapt to an at-home schedule easier than you might think.

You can work together with your children to create a daily routine for your family. Once agreed upon, it’s important that this schedule be visible to everyone in your family. Write it down on paper and pin it to the fridge, or on a chalk board in your house where everyone can see it.

Your family’s schedule might look something like this:

8:30am – Start

Wake up. Eat breakfast together as a family. Shower and get dressed in normal clothes (it’s important for everyone to not stay in pajamas all day).

9:15am – Exercise

Encourage some exercise in the morning. If you can, go outside for a walk, play a sport, or ride a bike. If it’s raining, do yoga in the living room.

10:00am – Chores

Ask everyone to help with chores around the house. Having a clean house will make everyone more productive throughout the day, and it’s an opportunity to teach your kids some “adult skills” like making a grocery list or folding the laundry.

10:30am – Learning/Working Block

Your first of three 2-hour learning/working blocks. Your kids can use this time to work on assigned school assignments or homework. You can use this as a concentrated work block to start your workday.

12:30pm – Lunch

Break for a 30 minute lunch as a family.

1pm – Learning/Working Block

Your second 2-hour work block of the day. Encourage your kids to play online educational games (like Legends of Learning) that are already teacher approved and curriculum aligned.

3pm – Exercise

If you can, go for another walk outside. If you’re stuck indoors, try yoga, dance parties, or indoor challenges like how many times everyone and climb up and down the stairs.

4pm – Learning/Working Block

Your last 2-hour work block of the day. Make this one “quiet time” for your kids. They can use the time to read, make art, or take photos. As a parent, use this quiet time to wrap up your workday and plan out your to do list for tomorrow.

6pm – Dinner

Have dinner together as a family.

7pm – Free Time

Save 2 hours after dinner for “free time”. You can watch a movie as a family, FaceTime with family or friends, or play a board game.

9pm – Bedtime

Encourage your children to try journaling or meditating as a way to relieve some of the anxiety they may be feeling due to so much uncertainty.

The best way to keep your kids on track? Develop a rewards system that celebrates your kids when they stick to the above schedule. An example: perhaps they earn 5 minutes of screen-time for each learning block they complete without interrupting your work schedule.

Welcome to the 2020s. As a new decade begins, new technologies will emerge. The recently concluded CES show showcased some emerging trends. You can see that there is not a lot of focus on technology to help teach and learn, developed for teachers and students.

As a parent and a former student of the public school system (Go Baltimore County Schools!), I am keen on creating technology to make US schools smarter, this is why I founded Legends Of Learning. Making it easy for kids to learn the school curriculum using science games and math games.

Math and Science Games for Kids
Easy For Teachers To Make Math & Science Homework Fun For Students

I wanted to take the opportunity to thank the over 1 million users who log in and use the Legends of Learning platform every month in class. In schools where Legends is used regularly, we have seen student grades improve as a direct result of using our games. Making classwork and homework more fun is working.

Educators in the US today are heroes – teachers, principals, counselors, and administrators who are all working towards preparing kids for their future. Many choose to educate kids as a career path because they are passionate about inspiring kids to learn in a safe and comfortable environment. It is certainly a win-win if educators get access to technology resources that resemble what the kids already love to play with at home, at the same time allow students to meet educational goals with added energy and enthusiasm.

Our goals for 2020 are :

 1. HOMEWORK: Help teachers assign standards-aligned homework that students can complete using the ultra-gamified Legends of Learning: Awakening
 2. MULTI-TOPIC ASSIGNMENTS: Make it easier for teachers to assign multiple topics at once
 3. DATA: Provide school districts and principals data and reports that help them see the impact of using Legends of Learning on improving engagement and scores

We would love your feedback if you are a user of Legends of Learning. You can send me an email at vpolikov@legendsoflearning.com or contact us via the chatbox on our website.

If you have found our learning platform useful, please help us spread the word by referring other educators to us.

The post Why We Published
6 Free Earth Day Games appeared first on Legends of Learning.

We just published 6 free Earth Day Games as part of our overall effort to support teachers educating their students about Earth Day. Why would we do this, you ask?

While most of our games are gated and require a free teacher account to play, Earth Day represents a pivotal time of year in the science classroom.

As spring makes its way into our lives, students start to spend a lot more time outside after a long winter. With so much media focused on Earth Day itself, the combination creates the perfect opportunity to engage students with earth science, as well as crosscutting concepts in life and physical sciences. Plus, let’s be fair, it’s one of the last lessons of the school year before most teachers go into test preparation and final exams.

So while we have literally hundreds of games about Earth Day-related topics, we thought it made sense to offer some openly available game-based learning content. Our goal is to help teachers and parents discussing Earth Day with their students to better enjoy this teaching moment. The games were selected by some of our teacher ambassadors, two of whom also created lesson plans published on our Earth Day Activities and Ideas website.

Legends of Learning published a wide series of games, lesson plans, playlists, activities, ideas, projects, and resources to educate students about the environment this Earth Day.

By the way, the Activities and Ideas page also provides access to more than 130 STEM activities and projects that you can engage in this Earth Day. So yeah, we want students to have a memorable, meaningful Earth Day experience. Our games are just part of that blended lesson plan.

Of course, we hope teachers will like the science games, too, and give them a try for their other lessons and test preparation. A legendary win-win!

Regardless, check out our 6 Free Online Earth Day Games here.

One of the most valuable features on the Legends of Learning platform is our playlist functionality. Playlists give teachers total control of their classroom, letting them determine who gets what games, see real time analytics, and even pause programs for mid-class discussions.

To help teachers maximize the power of this important feature, we’ve developed the following tip sheet, outlining five of the best uses for playlists. View it below, or download it here.

This year, wow your class with game based learning by creating the perfect Legends of Learning playlist. Much like a DJ, teachers have the ability to deploy their “set list” of games and assessment questions to students. But playlists can do much more than that.

5 Most FAQs About Legends of Learning Playlists

To illustrate the power of this feature, we decided to answer teachers’ five most frequently asked questions.

1. How Can I Make Sure I’m Selecting The Right Games For My Student Playlists?

Selecting the right games based on student interest or academic level is easy with the detailed game modal window. Simply click on any game from within the learning objective screen and the game modal window displays a game overview, teacher ratings, curriculum suggestions, and the option to play the game yourself. When you’ve determined which games are the right fit, click the “Create a Playlist” button and drag the games into your new playlist.

2. How Do I Customize My Playlists?

There are several ways to customize playlists for your students. First, name each playlist and add it to your saved playlists section for future use. Next, try dragging games into your playlist and then moving the games around by clicking and dragging. Finally, use the time slider to shorten or lengthen the amount of time students can play.

3. How Do I Launch My Playlists To Students?

When you launch playlists to your students, you give them an engaging gameplay experience while following their progress in real time on your live teacher dashboard. You can even launch different games to different student groups and create a personalized gaming experience while ensuring they all master the same content.

Launch to Everyone

To get started, locate the dropdown menu under each playlist, which gives you the option to launch to everyone or to a specific group. To create a class or group, navigate to the students page and click the “+” button next to the word “class”. Type in the name of your class or group and press save. You can then click the dropdown next to each student and add them to their group.

Create Your Class

Click the back button on your browser to return to your playlist. The names of your classes and groups will appear in the dropdown menu at the bottom of the playlist. When you launch your playlist to a specific group, only the students in that group will have access to the playlist.

4. How Do I Know Students Will Be Asked Questions During Game Play?

Assessment packs are valuable if you are playing games that are activity based and contain few questions. Click on the assessment icon next to the game list to add assessment packs to your playlist.

The new playlist feature from Legends of Learning gives teachers the ability to deliver engaging middle school science games while closely monitoring student achievement and growth. Here are five reasons to use playlists in your class this coming year:

1) Real Time Data Dashboard – The live teacher dashboard displays student progress in real time. Each student has a dot that moves along the playlist and shows their answers to the questions from the games.

Once the playlist is over, the data is automatically stored in your account. Since every playlist is saved, you can see how student and class performance improves over time.

2) Differentiated Playlists – Creating multiple playlists allows your classroom to divide into cohorts based on academic performance and play the games most appropriate for their academic level. For example, you can create three different playlists for your advanced, proficient, and basic students, or even create a unique playlist for every student in the class. Unlimited playlist creation makes personalizing content easy.

3) Total Teacher Control – Three features give you control of the gaming experience:

 • Playlist length – You can set the timer for 3-60 minutes of game play. If you want to shorten the playlist in live mode, click the stop button and every student’s game will end.
 • Dot Color – Dots turn red if your students stop playing and wander into a different tab. This makes it easy for you to know who is actively engaged in game play.
 • Pause Button – In live mode you can pause all students simultaneously. This ensures you have every student’s attention while you teach.

4) Student Voice – If you offer students Free Play, they can choose which games to play within the current lesson’s learning objective. There are two ways to deploy Free Play:

1) Launch a playlist with extra time built in after the games are completed. When the students finish their assigned games, they can pick which games to play with any remaining class time.

2) Free Play occurs when you launch an “empty” playlist with no games in it. In that case, students can choose whichever games they want throughout the time period.

Free Play Option 2

5) Scheduling Playlists – This soon-to-be deployed feature will allow you to schedule a playlist to deploy automatically at any time. For example, on Monday you could set a playlist to launch on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., or on Friday you could set a playlist to launch at 2:00 p.m. and end Sunday night at 7:00 p.m.

This feature lets teachers deploy playlists for homework, or provide substitute teachers playlists as an assignment.

As you think about ways to introduce game based learning in your classroom this coming year, consider using playlists from Legends of Learning. With all the features playlists offer, you can be confident that fun will translate into real academic growth. Sign up and start creating your playlists today!
