Represent 3-D Figures Using Nets Math Games

4 games

In this series of games, your students will learn how to represent three-dimensional figures using nets made up of rectangles and triangles. Represent 3-D Figures Using Nets learning objective — based on CCSS and state standards — delivers improved student engagement and academic performance in your classroom, as demonstrated by research. This learning objective directly references 6.G.A.4 as written in the common core national math standards.

Concepts Covered

A polyhedron is a solid with flat faces. Analyze and compose and decompose polyhedral solids. Use nets to describe the shapes and number of faces, edges, and vertices of a 3-dimensional figure. Solid shapes have an interior and an outer surface. Develop an understanding of the measurement of sides of a solid that are not seen in a picture. A net is a 2-dimensional representation of the faces of a 3-dimensional figure comprised of triangles and rectangles. Nets can be composed to form 3-dimensional figures.

There are often many net representations for the same 3-dimensional figure. Finding the area of each face using a net can be added to find the surface area of a 3-dimensional figure. Nets can be created through digital fabrication and/or graph paper. Find 3-dimensional shapes given specifications for surface area and volume.
