Whole Number Division Math Games

In this series of games, your students will learn to interpret whole-number quotients of whole numbers. The Whole Number Division learning objective — based on CCSS and state standards — delivers improved student engagement and academic performance in your classroom, as demonstrated by research. This learning objective directly references 3.OA.A.2 as written in the common core national math standards.

Concepts Covered

Splitting quantities of manipulatives or items into equal groups as an entrance point to the standard. Quotients do not need to be calculated to show standard. There are two kinds of division situations depending on which factor is the unknown: the number of objects in each group or the number of groups.

Clearly connect the word divide with the symbol. Split quantities into equal groups (whole number quotients only). Quantities split into equal groups will not have a quantity remaining (remainder). Arrays can be used to model division using factors. When using arrays, the roles of the factors do not differ. Quantities are arranged in rows and columns.

Interpret quotients as a number of objects in each share. Interpret quotients as a number of equal shares. Real-world context can be used. Interpret models as division expressions.
