Gases and Liquids Science Games

8 games

In this series of games, your students will learn about the states of matter, specifically the properties of gases and liquids. The Gases and Liquids learning objective — based on NGSS and state standards — delivers improved student engagement and academic performance in your classroom, as demonstrated by research.

Concepts Covered

Atoms and molecules are the particles that make up matter. A substance’s state of matter depends on how its molecules move and maintain their volume and shape.

The particles in a liquid move relative to each other. The liquid changes shape to fit the container it is in, but it maintains its volume.

In a gas, the atoms and molecules also move relative to each other, allowing the gas to flow like liquid. However, unlike liquid, gas also changes its volume, contracting or expanding to fit its container.

Substances change states of matter based on physical conditions like pressure and temperature. For example, when liquid water heats up to 100 degrees Celsius (℃), it evaporates into water vapor. When water vapor cools to below 100 ℃, it condenses into liquid water.
